Yad Vashem is Israel's official World Holocaust Remembrance Center, located on the Mount of Remembrance in western Jerusalem. This 45-acre complex serves as a sacred space dedicated to preserving the memory of Holocaust victims, honoring survivors and rescuers, and advancing Holocaust education and genocide prevention research. The Holocaust History Museum, designed by architect Moshe Safdie, features nine galleries containing photographs, documents, artifacts, and survivor testimonies that guide visitors through a chronological and thematic narrative of the Holocaust. Yad Vashem receives approximately one million visitors annually and operates free of charge, making it the second-most-visited tourist site in Israel after the Western Wall. The most respectful and emotionally impactful visits occur during spring and fall months when weather is moderate and crowds slightly diminish.
