Tain-l'Hermitage is a compact Rhône Valley town with an outsized reputation for wine and chocolate. Set on the left bank of the Rhône opposite Tournon-sur-Rhône, it is best known for the steep Hermitage hillside, where storied vineyards climb toward a white chapel and deliver some of the Northern Rhône’s most celebrated wines. The town also draws visitors for Valrhona’s chocolate universe, making it one of France’s most appealing food-and-wine stopovers. Visit in spring through autumn for vineyard walks, river views, and tastings, with late summer and harvest season offering the richest atmosphere.
