Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is one of the most unusual landscapes on the Oregon Coast, where towering coastal sand dunes, temperate rainforest, lakes, wetlands, and broad beach stretches collide in a single protected corridor. It runs for about 40 miles between Florence and Coos Bay and is best known for its giant moving dunes, OHV riding culture, and trail systems that range from easy forest walks to full dune crossings. The area also has a strong wildlife identity, especially around the Western Snowy Plover nesting zones and the bird-rich lakes and wetlands. The best time to visit is late spring through early fall, when conditions are typically better for hiking, beach access, and riding.
