Why Visit Nyungwe National Park
Nyungwe National Park in southwestern Rwanda is one of East Africa’s great rainforest destinations, a high-altitude montane forest packed with primates, birds, waterfalls, and spectacular viewpoints. It is best known for chimpanzee tracking, the famous canopy walk above the forest, and long hikes through dense evergreen habitat where colobus monkeys, monkeys, butterflies, and endemic birds are part of the experience. The park feels remote, cool, and deeply green, with a strong adventure-tourism identity centered on forest immersion rather than classic safari. The best time to visit is during the drier months, especially June to September and December to February, when trails are easier and canopy views are clearest.
