Kubuqi Desert is one of China’s signature desert landscapes, stretching across Inner Mongolia on the northern edge of the Ordos Basin. It is known for its rolling dunes, wind-sculpted ridges, Yellow River wetlands on its margins, and a remarkable desert restoration story that has turned parts of the region into a model for ecological recovery and desert tourism. The best time to visit is late spring through early autumn, especially May to September, when temperatures are more manageable and the desert experiences its clearest skies, strongest light, and most active tourism operations. For photographers and comfort, late September and October can also be excellent if you want cooler days and golden dune color.
