Erg Chigaga is Morocco’s wildest and most remote major dune field, a vast Sahara landscape west of M’Hamid where access still feels like an expedition rather than a sightseeing transfer. It is known for towering sand ridges, near-total silence, open horizons, nomad-style desert camps, and some of the clearest night skies in Morocco. Compared with the more accessible Erg Chebbi, Chigaga feels rawer, emptier, and more exclusive, with fewer camps and a stronger sense of isolation. The best time to visit is from **October to April**, when daytime temperatures are manageable and overnight desert camping is most comfortable.
