Why Visit Taroko National Park

Taroko National Park is Taiwan at its most dramatic: a marble-walled gorge carved by the Liwu River, steep mountain roads, suspension bridges, temples tucked into cliffs, and hiking trails that move from riverside shade to alpine ridgelines. The park is defined by Taroko Gorge, the Central Cross-Island Highway, and landmark stops such as Eternal Spring Shrine, Swallow Grotto, Shakadang, Baiyang, and Qingshui Cliffs. It draws visitors for its geology as much as its scenery, with some of the most striking canyon landscapes in East Asia. The best time to visit is generally autumn through spring for clearer weather and more comfortable hiking conditions, while summer brings heat, humidity, and a greater risk of typhoons and trail closures.
